PROPYLENE GLYCOL
Ethylene glycol is a very inexpensive compound with many benefits however it is very toxic to the environment. It’s sweet taste is very attractive to children and pets. Propylene glycol is another compound that has a very similar atomic structure to ethylene glycol. It doesn’t have any taste and isn’t attractive to pets and children. As well as it is more safer to use than ethylene glycol. It is not toxic and lethal to humans and animals as much as ethylene glycol. Propylene glycol is considered to be non- toxic antifreeze compared to the regular. Propylene glycol is used in freezing wrapped food, food processing applications and water pipes. It is also considered safe to be added to processed food. However, due it’s high degradable time it more toxic to the environment than ethylene glycol. It takes double the time to decompose in the environment.
GLYCERIN
Glycerin is also safer compound to use instead of ethylene glycol. However it can not operate in vehicles at such high and low temperatures. During 1900’s it was replaced by ethylene glycol as it was much more inexpensive during recession and it is non corrosive. Ethylene glycol maybe a inexpensive but it not a sensible choice. Glycerin is a by-product of biodiesel which is produced in large quantities today. Relatively to ethylene glycol it is much more safer as it does have a sweet taste to it. It structure is also very similar to ethylene glycol.
