Ethylene glycol is used for many applications today compared to 1900’s. It was used in explosions during WWI and is still used in dynamites. Main use of ethylene glycol is being used as antifreeze and de-icing solution. It’s low freezing point and miscibility with water helps it de-ice water fast. It is used in vehicles as coolant to prevent the radiator from heating. It also prevents the radiator from freezing in cold temperatures. It is as well as used in hydraulic brakes. It is used as heat conductor and transfer in geothermal heating/ cooling systems.Ethylene glycol is used to remove water from natural gas. Major usage of this compound goes to the plastic industry. It used in production of plastic fiber and films. Ethylene glycol is used as the main component in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) which is used in manufacturing of plastic bottles. This chemical is used as a solvent in paints and plastics. It plays a major role in textile industry. It is used in making of polyester, leather dyes and other fabrics. It is used as the first raw material that is used in the production. This compound is used as one of the ingredients in cosmetics, ink, ink-pad and ballpoint pens.Ethylene is used to keep food and industrial products dry such as tobacco. It is used in some food and medical products however at a very low quantity.
